Trudy thought it would be a fun couple of weeks at the family cabin near the seaside, until she discovered there was nobody there her age. The only other non-adult present was her 17-year-old cousin Colleen, who had a much different idea of fun than the 8-year-old Trudy.
Up early one morning and already in her swimsuit, Trudy proposed a daylong agenda to Colleen. "We can go to the beach and swim, and build sand castles, and search for shells, and..." Trudy suggested. "Boring!" said Colleen, who was dressed in a shocking-pink-and-black bikini. "I'm staying here and sunbathe on the patio and hopefully catch the attention of some of the cute boys who pass by," Colleen explained.
Saddened, Trudy retreated into the cabin and came upon a book her aunt was reading, "The Power of Telekinesis." After quickly scanning a section, Trudy decided to apply the techniques described. Closing her eyes and holding her arms out, she concentrated on a single thought: "I want a girl here my own age to be my friend and companion who will like the things I consider fun."
After 15 minutes, Trudy returned to the patio where she saw
a girl her size and age resembling Colleen, who was wearing a
similar swimsuit. "You know, Trudy? Something's changed,
but I can't figure out what," the girl said as she scanned
her body. "Colleen?" Trudy asked. "Yes?" the
girl responded. Realizing what had happened, Trudy proposed, "Let's
go to the beach to swim, and make sand castles, and search for
shells..." To which Colleen responded, "...And at 3:30,
we'll watch 'Sailor Moon' on The Cartoon Network." Trudy
grinned. It was going to be a fun couple of weeks after all!
