"What's the matter dear?" the woman said condescendingly to the crying little boy in the tub. "I did just like you wanted, honey! I fixed you a bath just like you asked me to. Don't you remember when you came home from work, dear?"
The little boy cried harder and pounded his hands on the side of the tub to be taken out. The woman smiled so broadly, so kind and motherly, as she picked him out and put him on her lap.
"Aww, of course you do," she said, brushing the suds from his sweet little face as he continued to bawl. "Why, I remember so clearly what you said," she continued in a voice oh so sweet and flowery... "Why, you said, first, 'Fetch me a beer you fucking whore...'," she paused briefly, nodding to herself as if to make sure she got it right. "Yes," she said finally, "Yes, I'm quite sure those were your exact words to me."
She smiled at the baby, beaming a charming, motherly innocent glow.
"And then," she went on, oh so sweetly, "I think you said, 'Where the hell is my goddamned paper!"
Even as she quoted her brutish hubby in was interesting how her voice never lost its charm or innocence. "Oh yes, I'm quite certain those were your words. And then, I think something like, 'Where the hell is my dinner,' and 'What the fuck do you do around here all day, you lazy bitch..." She smiled so kindly at the child and wiped his tears gently with love.
"And then, I remember, you asked me to fix your bath, just like you do every night... Only tonight, I decided to treat you *special* darling!" she tweaked his cheek and although it certainly didn't hurt him, he cried and screamed all the more at the humiliation she was inflicting.
"And now, honey, the good news is, you don't EVER have to worry about going to work again! Now, mommy will be taking care of you ALL THE TIME, and mommy is ALWAYS going to be there for her little man. Yes I am. Oh... snookums, doesn't that make you all happy!?"
And although her smile remained cheery, as well as just a
touch
on the insane side, the baby that had earlier in the day been
her husband, only bawled and kicked louder and harder. For some
reason he didn't really seem to enjoy her sweetness. No, he didn't
seem to enjoy it one little bit.
