The Epidemic Of Adult Babies

by Rekrul

Police Sergeant Moretti sat at his desk silently looking through the latest mug shots. Except for a few random criminals they were all more or less the same. If he lived to be a thousand years old, Moretti would never fully believe what he was looking at. If someone had tried to convince him that his force would be taking pictures of babies he would have just laughed in their face and gone back to drinking his coffee. But, that was exactly who 90 % of the most recent mug shots were of: diaper rats. The amazing thing was that these diaper rats were not tiny, slobbering, wobbly cutey-pies like most of that breed. No, these were grown diaper rats! Every single one of these babies had grown to the size of adults! They had somehow assumed the bodies of grown-ups. But the transformation was only superficial. They looked like twenty-something grown-ups but acted like babies. They were still immature, unsophisticated, pants wetting, slobbering diaper rats.

Over the last several weeks, nearly twenty cases had been discovered. Many of the babies had been found wandering the city, lost. Sometimes confused and scared, other times totally unaware that anything was wrong with their situation. They in no way were confused by anyone for adults. They stood out like a turtleneck on a giraffe and so were brought to the station soon after the transformation had occurred.

Take this most recent case. Olivia had been found walking through a downtown shopping mall, wearing only a pink dress with a furry trim and a diaper. She was barefoot, sucking her thumb and dragging her Teddy bear behind her. She was just about to climb into the mall's fountain when the "arresting" officer found her and brought her to the station. She offered no resistance. So far her parents could not be found. They only knew the kid's name because she kept repeating it ad nauseum, whenever someone tried to talk to her. It was infuriating.

Similar occurrences had been going on around the state. The authorities up to now had only been able to speculate on the cause of the sudden growth spurt of the area's toddler set. They blamed it on contaminated baby food. The brand: NARture's Choice had been found in many of the homes of the now much bigger babies.

The phone rang.

"Moretti here. Yes we did, mind if I ask you a couple questions, just for protection of the child, you understand? Ok. Can you describe her, what was she wearing? Hair color? Any identifying marks? "

He pauses and listens.

Mr. and Mrs. Handenberg, I think we have your daughter.
