The Empty Stroller

by Rekrul

It happened so quickly that it was only a flash of movement; a crash as the teenager tipped her daughter's stroller, a spill of liquid, a double cry and then she was gone.

Then the strangeness started.

As her mother watched: at once awed, horrified, bewildered and open-mouthed, her cute blonde-haired two-year old began changing. The change was quick. The toddler's body began to stretch, elongating and slimming. Her body became too big for the stroller that she previously, only moments before, had easily occupied. The same could be said for the expensive Baby Gap clothing she wore. Her orange sweater tore and no longer covered her belly. The snap on her obnoxiously precocious fake leather pants popped open and the pants split at the seams. They revealed her diapers, which no longer fit her either. This was all right since the two year old wasn't a baby anymore. The change had brought an early pubescence. Which had brought breasts and a new-found maturity to the girl. She was a grown-up now, but was she ready for it? Her Mother wasn't and fainted. No longer able to sit in her stroller the girl stood open mouthed and in shock, nearly naked in the middle of the mall.

The teenager who was at fault, the one with the lime green colored hair and the pacifier dangling from colored beads around her neck, stood only a few stores away, hiding behind a rack of discount sundresses. She watched in shock as the little girl transformed. Her dream of reliving her childhood, escaping her impending adulthood and leaving the awfulness of her daily life behind was gone. She almost cried as she stuck the pacifier in her mouth and sucked. And sucked and sucked and sucked.
